Easy chutney/ thuvaiyal that can be made under 5 minutes, goes well with pongal, kanji etc. I first time got this thalippu vadagam from my MIL. I have tasted thalippu vadagam may be once or twice in tempering during my childhood and never liked it. Same with Vj, he too never like thalippu vadagam tempering. So both my mom and MIL never made this or use this. This is passed to my MIL from her sis, so my MIL asked me to take few. Though I did not want to, I took just 4 for making this thogaiyal as I have heard this will be really nice and easy to make too. And I realised that it’s true when I tried on my own. They say this is perfect for pongal. But Yet I have to try that. I tried it with vendhaya kanji as you must have seen in my last week’s post. I would say it was similar to vathal kuzhambu taste and flavour, as the ingredients are same.

Tamarind – 1/2 tsp
Red chilli – 3
Jaggery – 1/2 tsp
Coconut – 2 tbsp
Salt – As needed
Method
- Place everything in blender (break the vadagam roughly) and grind with very little water.

Notes
- Make sure to balance salt, tamarind and chilli which is important. You can skip coconut too but recommend to add as it gives volume.
Serve with any kanji or ven pongal.
